When are your classes?

We are no longer running weekly classes in Tewkesbury, but we will be running some workshops on Saturday 12th May, 2012 in Cheltenham at the Bayshill. For more regular classes, we recommend you check out Tango Cheltenham

Where are our classes?

Our next set of workshops will be at the Bayshill Unitarian Church in Cheltenham

How much are the workshops?

The day of workshops is £12 per person. This includes two workshops and two guided practícas plus light refreshments.

What level are the workshops?

These workshops will assume that you have already done some Argentine tango, but you will not need to have any prior experience of canyengue or even really know much about it. If you are not sure whether or not the workshops will be suitable for you, please do ask us. We can be reached via the Tango Cheltenham Enquiry Page

What are the workshops about?

Both workshops will be looking at canyengue. Canyengue is an old style of tango which is rhythmic and earthy and is danced in a milonguero hold. While it is not often danced on the social dance floor these days, it is currently enjoying a revival and is an interesting and fun dance to experience.

The first workshop will run from 13:00 - 14:00 and will provide an introduction to the canyengue style and the specifics of the embrace as well as giving you some basic steps.

The second workshop will run from 14:30 - 15:30 and will provide you with some steps in canyengue style, including ochos.

After each workshop there will be refreshments and a thirty minute guided practíca.

What should I wear?

You should wear whatever you feel comfortable in. However, we have a couple of recommendations. Since you are dancing, you will need the ability to move your legs freely - especially women, so if you wear jeans, please make sure they are not too tight to allow a good range of movement. Shoes should be comfortable and smooth soled as the Argentine Tango involves pivoting, especially for ladies. Ladies usually wear shoes with a heel, though as beginners, you will probably wish to wear shoes without too high a heel as you will need to get used to walking backwards.

Who are you?

We are Adrian Barsby and Jolanta Dickson. Adrian has jointly run Tango Cheltenham with Janet Earl since September 2004. Adrian and Jolanta ran Tango Tewkesbury from 2010 to 2012.
